Over the past couple years we’ve had a few discussions at Lighthouse and in our 100+Living series about getting clean.
Not confessions of the soul, but rather cleaning the cupboards and getting a healthier grocery cart. Eating clean.
In January it’s a no brainer. People are waking up from their sugar induced fog from the holidays and guilt is at an all time high. You can even throw in a little low grade depression for good measure. We’re motivated because we feel rather bad.
We know we’ve dropped the ball on committments we made to ourselves.
But seriously, when are we going to finally break free of the junk that slows us down?

Just this week (ironically the week I am giving 2 webinars on 100+Nutrition) I grabbed the nacho chips out of the cupboard and proceeded to load up on the stuff that derails my health right before bed.
Yes I can blame stress, over commitments and not sticking to my guns but really it boils down to the fact that I forgot my “why”.
What’s my “why” (life vision) got to do with it?
I was immediately reminded of my mistake when the alarm went off the next morning and I felt groggy and unfocused.
My “before bed” snack did me in and destroyed my sleep.
So, I’m writing this blog post a couple days latter, to remind myself why I need to stick to what I teach. Because I want to live a long and healthy life, a 100+Living life.
My next step is to move closer to our “going organic without going broke” game plan.
Let me explain. . . .
Eating clean and moving towards going organic, affordably
A couple years ago I interviewed a couple who have been growers in the Organic food industry for over 30 years.
They recommended that we consider speaking to local farmers that were not necessarily certified organic but who didn’t use sprays or chemicals with their animals. Something they referred to as “non-sprayed” crops.
The biggest excuse is time.
It takes time to head out to the farmer’s market to speak with growers and farmers. To justify this time we really need to see how this will benefit our future or else we will give up before we start.
There will always be things that I can fill my time with BUT I need to prioritize the things that will help me accomplish the vision I have for my life.
Continuing to be dependant on the grocery store for all my food will not fill my fridge or pantry with the right stuff.
My renewed commitment to myself
So my commitment for 2016 is to purposely seek out and find a friendly farmer who can provide my family with better, affordable produce.
In that process I will become less dependant on the food choices that the grocery store provides, I will support a local grower, and in 12 months time I will take a HUGE step closer to having a cleaner pantry and fridge.
Now I just need to stop buying nacho chips — even if they are “organic”. . . .
